Landmark visit captured on camera

Dons players made the short trip to SW19

3 May 2024

A switch in sporting codes for Johnnie Jackson’s first-team squad included taking centre stage at a world famous venue on our doorstep – the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

For the very first time, the Dons visited the grounds which host the iconic Wimbledon Championships, watched by millions around the globe every year.

The landmark visit was captured on camera, showing our players taking in the sights of centre court, before enjoying a coaching masterclass from Dan Bloxham, Head of Coaching at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Our midfielder James Ball’s tennis technique caught the eye and he pushed GB ranked number four player Lily Miyazaki – currently 140th in the world – all the way in a one-off game with his efforts earning adulation from his team-mates on the sidelines.

Take a look at the video below, which features the following:

  • Johnnie Jackson talking about how coaching techniques can transfer across the sports
  • Craig Cope on the benefits to the community of the link-up
  • A look behind-the-scenes at the All England Lawn Tennis Club
  • TV presenter Annabel Croft on plans to come along to her first AFC Wimbledon match
  • A glimpse at the tennis talents of our players – including big-serving James Ball

Our big thanks to Phil Sheehan and Rose Manley from La Pédale Films for putting together this video.
