Seasonal sponsors’ event excites the masses

Goals galore in annual match-up

3 May 2024

There was thrills and spills aplenty as our traditional fixture between AFC Wimbledon XI and Sports Interactive took centre stage at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The match, which involved an SI assembled team taking on our other sponsors on the hallowed Plough Lane turf, also saw Johnnie Jackson and Craig Cope handed run outs in what was a chaotic fixture featuring plenty of goals!

Ultimately, it was the creators of Football Manager who came out on top on the day but overall it was the taking part that counts as some of our newer sponsors, including DRK Lighting and Rose Capital Partners, got to experience the event for the first time.

Watch what Johnnie and our sponsors had to say pitchside below!

Speaking during the fixture, Darren Roper-Knight Owner/Director of DRK Lighting said: “It’s been a fantastic experience to be able to walk on the pitch and be part of this event. DRK as a company has made so much business out of the partnership.

“The main highlight for me in this season has been sponsoring the Chelsea game in the cup. I was so proud to see our logo on show to a global audience. Wimbledon is a fantastic club, I love the people that work here and are involved in it. I absolutely adore coming to the stadium here.”

Richard Campo, Founder of Rose Capital Partners said: “It’s been brilliant to be a part of this event. It’s been a pleasure to have our branding on the sleeve this season, it’s got our name out to a wider audience.  There’s also been some excellent moments in the shirts. The win over MK as an example was unbelievable!”

We were also happy to see two of our longer-standing sponsors involved again, with Adam Velasco and Alex Bell of Cherry Red Records and Sports Interactive being long-standing members of the respective squads.

“I’ve been playing as far back as the Kingsmeadow days,” said Adam. “I scored with my head many years ago, so I still dine out on that! The season has been really positive. At Cherry Red we’ve got some releases coming up and a lot of deals on the go. We’ll be working all summer, so there’s no rest!”

“I was there at the Sutton game at the very beginning – it’s still brilliant to see our brand on the shirts,” added Alex. “It’s a proper fairytale story and the fact we’ve been able to be a part of it is just wonderful, and long may that continue.”

Although the 2023/24 season may have just finished, Johnnie is still working hard in the background to build a squad for the 2024/25 campaign.

“I’m still really busy, I’ve had meetings with Craig and the chairman today,” he explained. “Terry (Skiverton) was also here at the stadium today talking about how we need to go about things over the next few weeks. We’ve got a clear idea of what’s going to happen. The hard work starts now.”
